Fear:
Lord Veritas once mocked the Sith at OotS (Order of the Sith) by asking:
"Is anyone scared of you? Or do you just sit and talk?"
While his premises for asking this question had its grounds on which to stand, it was not his words which sparked this lecture, but the response from Miles (a highly regarded figure in the Sith community) who then responded with (quote)---"Fear is inefficient.
What other techniques have you used to lead groups to victories, that you found fear to be the most effective?"
I will not argue that there are indeed better ways in which to lead groups, to manage them. But, to dismiss fear as inefficient, to place it as something that is not an option is to deny one of the very things which makes us Sith and Dark Siders to begin with. In fact, it was rather funny because I did not see that Lord Veritas had been the original poster of the actual topic, and I was immediately drawn to Miles' words and thought that perhaps he was the one whom had made the topic of fear in order to spur discussion and a response. The words were that shocking that I completely dismissed the first post and went straight to those words: "Fear is inefficient" and found myself swept into this frenzy of typing as I fought back anger and almost disgust at what had just seen.
I did not even have time to quote the man as I typed out my hasty response:
"While normally I tend to agree with you, I do not think that fear in inefficient in any way. Granted, fear might be harder on the masses because we all fear different things, but that does not mean that fear in itself cannot and will not work for what you want it to. How many times has fear driven someone to madness, to crime? How many times has it been fear that made a dying man find God in his last moments, to seek forgiveness from all the things he has done because he is afraid what lies after his mortal shell is dead and gone?
Someone who fears for his families safety will move them to another place. A man that fears he might starve will do just about anything in order to get food. If you make a man truly afraid of losing something precious to him, you will have him eating out of palms of your hand.
There are many other ways to a victory, yes...but fear should never be disregarded for any reason."
I continue to stand by this opinion and these words.
Here recently in the USA, there has been much talk of ISIS, and fear-mongering has people huddling in their homes, clutching to their guns. It has led to riots, chaos, as people are afraid that every Muslim they see is a spy for ISIS and has come to take their very life.
In a sense, while we are still the stronger force with our allies, fear is starting to let the enemy gain something of an upper hand as they behead American journalists, and hit us right where it hurts. Fear is a tactic used in every war, it has thrived and only gotten stronger through years and years of bloodshed, because peace is a lie, and war never truly stops. So, to say it is inefficient is like playing sorry without the game pieces, playing monopoly without the cards. A key ingredient to victory is missing without fear, and as stated before, it should therefore NEVER be disregarded no matter what.
We as Sith stand for power, we as Sith use anything...any tool necessary in order to gain victory. Be that brute strength, be that knowledge, or even be it fear. Whatever we have within our grasp, everything and anything is to be used as a weapon if it means our rise, and our success. Fear is no exception to this rule no matter what. Best to remember that.

Discussion points:
1. Fear is weakness...so,what is your Fear? How will you conquer it?
2. Do you find Fear to be ineffiecient? Why/Why not?
3. What other examples of life use fear in order guide something, control something, and ultimately gain victory?
Discussion points can be posted in the Sith Discussion Board or posted as a Holocron entry.
